Alambic is distributed as a compressed tar archive named after the version of the product. You probably downloaded the following file from this site:

Alambic-1.0.2.tar.gz

To install Alambic, become root, place yourself in the directory where you want to install Alambic and run the following command:

gzip -dc Alambic-1.0.2.tar.gz | tar xf -

After a short moment you should see a newly created directory named Alambic-1.0.2 and containing two subdirectories bin and etc.

The bin subdirectory contains the Alambic binary called Alambic.

The etc subdirectory contains a template configuration file Alambic.cf and the Alambic PostScript Printer Description file Alambic.ppd.
