Why not use the pstopdf filter that comes with CUPS?
Several Alambic printers can be defined within CUPS, they all use the same Alambic binary but different configuration files (specified via the DEVICE_URI). This allows for different PostScript to PDF conversion utilities to be used. For example you could create an Alambic printer that creates PDF files with 2 pages of the original PostScript document per page, or one that watermarks the documents, or different ones ouputing screen, web, print or prepress optimized documents. The only differences among the configuration files would be the value of the PDFGen primitive.
